Former Big Bullets coach Eddingtone Ng’onamo and his ex-assistant Gerald Phiri have dragged the club to court, claiming a total of K1.506 million unpaid dues between 2012 and 2013 when they were in charge.

According to The Nation findings, the summons were filed through the High Court in Zomba.

However, both Ng’onamo and Phiri could not be reached for comment while Bullets general secretary Harold Fote confirmed the development.

“It is indeed true that Ng’onamo and Phiri have jointly sued us for unpaid dues during the period they were in charge.

“The issue is being handled by our lawyer Felix Tandwe but the club’s position is that we are going to contest the suit because we do not have any records to show that we owe them any money,” said Fote.

He also argued that in the absence of contracts between the club and the two tacticians, there is no basis to justify their claims.

“We also wonder how they [Ng’onamo and Phiri] claim not to have been paid when other members of the technical panel who served under them such as team manager Noel Kawole and assistant coach Lloyd Nkhwazi were paid,” he said.

Ng’onamo was hired as head coach by the previous Bullets executive committee. He was later promoted to the position of technical director, paving the way for his then assistant Phiri to take over the mantle.

During their tenure of the duo, Bullets won the Presidential Cup and finished the TNM Super League championship tying on points with eventual champions Silver Strikers during the 2012 season, but were pipped on goal difference.

However, Bullets struggled the following season in which they finished a distant eighth.
